If you've been wondering about Negan's beloved bat Lucille, Sunday's episode of "The Walking Dead" finally shed some light on the Savior leader's slightly creepy obsession with the barbed-wired baseball bat.

While held captive by Jadis, Negan opened up to the leaders of the now-dead Heapster crew.

Last chance to head back before spoilers.

There's a reason Negan talks to that bat so fondly. Gene Page/AMC

So what's the deal with the bat?

Negan tells Jadis his bat is named after his dead wife Lucille.

"My wife's name was Lucille. She got me through," Negan says while tied up. "I didn't give her sh-- and she got me through this life — regular life. The bat, the bat got me through this, so I named it after her. That's it. Nothing more to do with her than that, but it is the last little piece of her I have left."

We previously learned a little bit about Negan's wife earlier this season when he was trapped in a trailer with Father Gabriel. Negan said he couldn't bring himself to kill his wife when she turned, but he didn't reveal her name.

Negan's story doesn't completely win over Jadis, but Negan gets some points for opening up and being vulnerable. In the end, she spares his life so he can return to the Sanctuary to exact some sweet revenge on Simon.

Still, that's not the whole story about Lucille.

Negan leaves out a few crucial details about his beloved wife which may leave you with mixed feelings.

More of Negan's backstory is revealed in a one-off comic series called "Here's Negan."

It's revealed Lucille dies as a result of cancer. Though Negan is at her bedside when she dies, he cheats on his wife while she's sick.

Maybe the show's changing things up with Negan so he's more loyal to Lucille, but that will remain to be seen if we ever get a flashback.
